    What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Hyundai Kona? What does it compare to?

    Redesigned for 2024, the Hyundai Kona small crossover slots between the smaller Venue and larger Tucson in Hyundai’s crossover SUV lineup. It competes with everything from the related Kia Niro to the Subaru Crosstrek and Honda HR-V. 

    Is the 2024 Hyundai Kona a good SUV?

    Larger, roomier, and designed with an electric-first focus, the second-generation Kona builds off the daring style and loaded feature set of its predecessor. Hyundai has not announced the return of the Kona N performance model, but three powertrain options present shoppers with a lot of choice that’s unusual in the small crossover segment. We can’t rate it until we drive it this summer, but we expect it to continue to be one of the top candidates in the class. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

    What’s new for the 2024 Hyundai Kona?

    The redesigned Kona grows nearly six inches in length, has a 2.4-inch longer wheelbase, and is also nearly an inch wider than the first-gen Kona that launched in 2018. The Kona Electric gets a slight boost in range to 260 miles, but the mechanicals in both the gas and electric versions mostly stay the same. The big difference comes from the design, which Hyundai says started with an electric platform instead of a gas platform first as in the outgoing Kona. 

    The result is a body with more curves, less chunks, and a holistic design that wraps around the car. In both electric and gas models, the nose dips into a light bar spanning the front end. A lower, horizontal theme replaces the broad mesh grille, with aerodynamics overtaking the more upright face of the old model. A lower grille flanked by intakes and bookended by vertical LED headlights and running lights looks like nothing else in the Hyundai lineup. On the Kona Electric, the aero-mindedness results in a low 0.27 coefficient of drag. 

    In profile it takes on more traditional Kona cues, with flexed wheel arches slathered in black cladding in gas models but with body color in the Electric. Kona N Line models ride on 19-inch alloy wheels, but the Electric rolls on more efficient 17-inch wheels and tires. Parallel body lines rise up along with the windowline toward the rear, where an integrated rear roof spoiler wags from the tail. Another light bar hugs the rear, and the taillights and reverse lights clap the ends to accentuate the horizontal theme. N Line models flex dual exhaust tips, a rear spoiler, and red accents. 

    The inside features dual 12.3-inch display screens housed under one piece of glass curved toward the driver, similar to the Ioniq electric models. The Kona’s gear shifter also moves from the console to the steering column, freeing up space in both models for seat heater buttons, a drive mode dial, cupholders, and a wireless smartphone charger. Climate buttons, a menu bar, and audio dials underscore the center touchscreen, so most on-the-fly functions can be done without touching the screen. The dash and vents carry over the horizontal theme. 

    The roomier cabin comes with rear seats that can recline or fold flat to increase the cargo volume from 25.5 cubic feet with the seats up to 63.7 cubic feet. That’s a significant increase over the outgoing model’s 19.2 cubic feet and 45.8 cubes with the seats flat. Rear legroom measures 38.2 inches, which is one of the roomiest in the class but we won’t know just how roomy until we get in there ourselves; the outgoing model had 35.2 inches. The Kona Electric loses a little bit of passenger space, with rear legroom trimmed to 36.4 inches, but the front legroom exceeds that of the gas model.

    2024 Kona Electric

    The 2024 Kona Electric uses a slightly larger 64.8-kwh battery pack (64.0 kwh in outgoing model) to energize a 150-kw front motor that makes 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. A smaller 48.6-kwh battery pack will also be offered, with a 99-kw motor making 133 hp and 188 lb-ft. The Kona Electric is front-wheel drive only, and it will initially be limited to sales in 26 states. 

    The Long Range version promises 260 miles of range, based on Hyundai estimates. Regenerative braking through steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters can help recoup more energy, and a one-pedal drive mode takes it to a stop. Unlike the Ioniq electrics, the Kona Electric utilizes a 400-volt not 800-volt architecture, so DC fast-charging times stretch out to 43 minutes to charge it from 10-80%. A vehicle-to-load function puts out 1.7 kw to charge appliances at camp or worksites, or for minor backup power during a blackout.

    2024 Kona gas options  

    The 2024 Kona combustion engines carry over from last year. The base engine is a 2.0-liter inline-4 that makes 147 hp and 132 lb-ft. It pairs with a CVT and front-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive is listed on the spec sheet. Our testing of that engine in the smaller and presumably lighter outgoing Kona left us wanting, with weak highway passing and grudging takeoff from a stop. 

    The N Line and Limited trims carry over with a perkier 1.6-liter turbo-4 that makes 190 hp and 195 lb-ft. Hyundai ditched the balky 7-speed dual-clutch of its predecessor for an 8-speed automatic transmission that will most certainly be smoother. 

    Kona Electric and AWD models come with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension; the Kona gas FWD models use a torsion-beam rear axle. 

    2024 Kona safety

    Historically, the IIHS and NHTSA gave the small crossover top marks in crash safety, but it remains to be seen if that carries over on the larger model. Hyundai equips it with good standard safety features such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, LED headlights with automatic high beams, and active lane control. Options include blind-spot monitors, blind-spot cameras, adaptive cruise control with sustained hands-free driving in certain situations, remote parking, a surround-view camera system, a driver-attention monitor and more. 

    How much does the 2024 Hyundai Kona cost?

    Pricing and trim levels will be announced nearer the on-sale date later this year, but for now the 2024 Kona will be sold in Limited, N Line, and Electric models. A Kona N will not be offered initially. Expect it to cost at least $30,000; the 2023 Hyundai Kona starts at about $24,000 in base SE or $26,000 for the Kona SEL. It’s unclear if those trims will be available on the 2024 Kona. We expect the 2024 Kona Electric to exceed the current model’s $35,000 tag.

    What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Buick Envista? What does it compare to?

    The 2024 Buick Envista is a compact crossover wedged between the smaller Encore GX and larger Envision in Buick’s lineup. Yet it’s priced as the entry-level Buick to compete against everything from the Chevy Trax to the Mazda CX-30. 

    Is the 2024 Buick Envista a good SUV?

    We won’t know until we test it before it goes on sale this summer, but it occupies a strange place in Buick’s lineup and in the broader GM portfolio. It’s larger than the Encore GX but costs nearly $5,000 less, yet is well-equipped despite offering only one powertrain and only front-wheel drive. We’re curious. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

    What’s new for the 2024 Buick Envista?

    The Buick Envista small crossover is new to the U.S. market though it’s been sold in the Buick hotspot of China since 2022. The 2024 Envista adopts a profile that projects the sporty stance of a coupe with the taller ride height that has made crossovers so popular. It has a short dash-to-axle ratio, where the windshield or A-pillar ends near the front axle. The raked windshield then flows back over an arched roof that resolves at the tailgate spoiler of an even more raked rear windshield. Modeled after Buick’s Wildcat EV concept unveiled last year, the Envista has a wide mesh grille met by a hood that dips dramatically, as if to show off Buick’s latest tri-crest badging. It’s a handsome car, as long as you don’t look too closely at the congested rear pillar and rear quarter windows. 

    It’s a tough area to pull off with a coupe-like roof in a bulky crossover body, and another drawback to the design is the pinched cargo area and compromised rear headroom. The 2024 Envista measures 182.6 inches long with a wheelbase of 106.3 inches. That’s sized more like the 2023 Buick Envision mid-size crossover at 182.5 inches long with a wheelbase of 109.4 inches. The Encore GX measures 171.4 inches long, with a wheelbase of 102.2 inches.

    The Envista has 20.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind its 60/40-split rear seats, or 42.0 cubic feet when folded down. That’s smaller than the boxier Encore GX at 23.5/50.2 cubic feet. The Envision is a couple cubic feet larger. 

    The passenger area in the Envista is fine for two long-legged passengers who aren’t too tall. Rear headroom in the Envista is 37.3 inches without the optional sunroof (worse with it), but rear legroom stretches out to 38.7 inches. The Encore GX is 38.1/36.0 inches.

    The cabin favors the front seats, as it should, with a curved dash panel that integrates an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and a standard 11.0-inch touchscreen. It’s a black on black affair, girded by black plastic that likely feels and looks a tad better than a base Trailblazer or Trax but not quite as ambitious as a GMC Denali or the nicer end of Cadillac. Under the interface is a panel of climate dials and buttons so there’s not too much reliance on the touchscreen. A mechanical gear shifter remains in the console. 

    That shifter engages a 6-speed automatic transmission paired to a 136-hp 1.2-liter turbo-3. Sportiness will not be the calling card for the Envista, despite a standard flat-bottom steering wheel. Buick will only offer it in front-wheel drive as well. It rides on front struts and a solid rear axle, except for the top Avenir trim and its rear Watts link setup. 

    With such a limited powertrain and with styling cues adopted from an EV concept, we can’t help but wonder if the Envista presages Buick’s forthcoming Electra electric vehicle lineup. For now, GM expects it to get 30 mpg combined.

    How much does the 2024 Buick Envista cost?

    Offered in Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and Avenir trims, the Envista starts at $23,495, including destination. Standard driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and automatic high beams. Options include blind-spot monitors and adaptive cruise control. ST models cost $25,195 while top Avenir grades cost $29,695. A full feature list will be available closer to its summer on-sale date.

    The GLE-Class can do it all. There’s no slouch here, and no model rides poorly—unless you opt for the glamorous 22-inch wheels available on AMGs, that is. Stick with a standard GLE, though, and these models easily earn a 7 out of 10.

    All but base models have a high-response all-wheel-drive system that hustles power to wheel(s) without traction, too. 

    How fast is the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class?

    No slowpoke wears the GLE badge.

    Base GLE 350s use a 2.0-liter turbo-4 rated at 255 hp, which is good for about a 7.0-second 0-60 mph run. GLE 450 models swap in a 3.0-liter turbo-6 with mild-hybrid tech that helps alleviate any hint of lag. They zip to 60 in 5.5 seconds, easily earning their $6,200 upcharge. 

    Faster but notably pricier is the GLE 580’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, which is good for 483 hp and a 4.9-second run to 60 mph. 

    All versions use a wonderful 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. 

    Mercedes’ in-house AMG tuning division whipped up two flavors of GLE: the 429-hp GLE 53 with its amped-up version of the GLE 450’s engine or the full-bore GLE 63 with 603 hp from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that is physically built in an AMG facility. The faster of the two is good for a blistering 3.7-second run to 60 mph.

    Properly equipped, GLE 450 and GLE 580 models can lug up to 7,700 pounds of trailer, too. 

    Ride quality is the GLE’s hallmark; optional air springs fitted to higher-end models are even better, especially should you be tempted by their biggest wheels. For $1,710 on a GLE 450, the package containing air springs and adaptive dampers is worth the money. 

    AMG models can be firm; a recent GLE 63  tester with 22-inch wheels was downright stiff, with lots of lateral head-tossing motion as a result. But AMGs also have an active roll stabilization system that helps counteract lean with downright uncanny response. No SUV this big or heavy should handle this well.

    The Nautilus is a mid-size crossover SUV with two rows of seats that reaches into luxury territory. It takes on the likes of the Audi Q5, Lexus RX, and Cadillac XT5.

    Just about everything. The Nautilus has a new design inside and out, a new platform, and a new hybrid powertrain. The new platform is shared with the compact Corsair and is stretched to fit the mid-size Nautilus. At 193.2 inches long, the Nautilus is 3.2 inches longer than the outgoing model and its 114.2-inch wheelbase is 2.0 inches longer. It’s also 2.0 inches taller and 1.1 inches wider.

    The design features a new nose that was previewed by the Chinese Zephyr sedan. The large grille has a hint of a horse collar shape. It’s bisected by a light bar that runs from the center-located Lincoln star to the “upwing”-shaped LED headlights. Lincoln logos are part of large trim pieces along the front flanks, and the door handles are located in the beltline. Large 19- to 22-inch wheels fill out the wheel wells, and the rear has Lincoln lettering in a full-width LED taillight. The roof can be had in a contrasting black, which is reflected in black rocker panels.

    Inside, the full-width theme carries over with a screen at the base of the windshield that’s actually made of two 23.6-inch screens, which somehow add up to 48.0 inches, according to Lincoln’s calculations. The center stack also has an 11.1-inch touchscreen that can control what is shown on the passenger side of the full-width screen, including the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto screens. The driver side of that screen shows speed, a tachomoter, the fuel level, and a navigation map screen. Lincoln has Constellation, Tranquil, Engage, and Inspire graphic themes for the wide screen, and the steering wheel has a flat-top design to provide a better view of the screen. The system will have over-the-air update capability.

    The Nautilus has two seating rows to accommodate five passengers, and Lincoln claims it will have best-in-class rear legroom. The cabin offers up to 36.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 71.3 cubic feet behind the first row.

    The base powertrain carries over. It’s a 2.0-liter turbo-4 that produces 250 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque hooked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. A new hybrid model gets a 300-hp 2.0-liter turbo-4 that teams up with a 134-hp electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. The engine and motor combine to make 310 hp. Both powertrains come with standard all-wheel drive. Fuel economy is not yet available for either.

    Lincoln makes its Co-Pilot 360 safety suite standard. It comes with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts with emergency braking, rear parking sensors, an exit warning system, automatic high beams, automatic parking, and a surround-view camera system. The Nautilus will also come standard with the hands-free BlueCruise 1.2 driver-assist system that can operate the vehicle on nearly 200,000 miles of mapped highways in North America and perform hands-free lane changes.

    How much does the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus cost?

    Prices aren’t yet available, but Lincoln says Nautilus will start around $51,000. Premiere, Reserve, and Black Label trim levels will be offered. Standard equipment will include a 10-way power driver seat, an 8-way power front passenger seat, heated and cooled front seats, ambient lighting, driver seat memory, a heated power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a 10-speaker audio system, a 5G wi-fi hot spot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa Built-In, a power tailgate, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

    Lincoln will also offer leather upholstery, 24-way power front seats, Revell 14- and 28-speaker audio systems, heated rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive dampers, and a Lincoln Rejuvenate system that can use the seat massagers, display animations, ambient lighting, and a scent to help calm drivers.

    The CLA-Class is Mercedes-Benz’s smallest and most affordable sedan, although the brand prefers to call it a “coupe.” It’s a strong competitor to the Audi A3 and BMW 2-Series.

    The 2024 Mercedes CLA-Class is a great pick for a small car, as long as you don’t expect crossover-level practicality. We like its elegant road manners and svelte styling, good for a 6.0 on the TCC scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

    Lots. The 2024 CLA gets revised exterior styling with standard high-performance LED front lighting and LED rear lighting, a pair of 10.3-inch screens, the updated MBUX infotainment system, a new mild-hybrid powertrain, and updated wheel designs and upholstery choices. The optional Driver Assistance Package has been upgraded and joined by a new standard Parking Package.

    The CLA is available in three forms, all of which combine a coupe silhouette with four doors for personality and practicality. It’s a style statement that helps justify its $40,000-plus price tag, much like a scaled-down interpretation of the automaker’s larger CLS.

    There are two flavors of AMG versions—some have AMG-blessed engines and others get AMG styling upgrades—and all look and feel a little tarted up thanks to bigger air intakes and larger wheels, but the overall shape still looks classy.

    The CLA’s cabin features simple lines that best complement the pair of 10.3-inch screens behind a single pane of glass. A bevy of upholstery and trims are available, most of which require additional spend or are accessed through various packages. Shop thoughtfully.

    The CLA can be fitted with a trio of turbo-4 engines, which vary from a basic 221 to a boisterous 416 hp in output. The base versions are quick, the CLA 35s with the mild-hybrid system are fast, and the ferocious CLA 45 hustles like a supercar with an additional 34 hp this year. All CLAs ride well enough, though you’ll want the optional adaptive dampers, particularly if you dress up the corners with the biggest rolling stock on offer.

    The coupe name is appropriate inside, where front passengers have acceptable space but those in the rear will need to be on the shorter side. The back seat is best considered an extension of the roadster-like trunk. The cabin has an upscale, classy look, though the CLA’s spot as the entry to the brand hierarchy is betrayed in some cheaper interior materials. 

    No crash evaluations have been performed. Blind-spot monitors and automatic emergency braking come standard, but adding more driver-assistance features like adaptive cruise control significantly increase the price.

    How much does the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class cost?

    We expect pricing to start at about $40,500 and climb quickly from there. Standard features include synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and twin 10.3-inch displays; consider budgeting for the adaptive cruise control and navigation that elevate the CLA to a proper luxury car. You’ll spend another $2,000 for all-wheel drive, so expect an outlay of least $47,000 for a modestly equipped CLA 250. For an AMG, shoot even higher, as a loaded-up version tops $80,000.

    This preview of the 2024 Ram 1500 will be updated once final specs, photos, and prices are available. 

    The 2024 Ram 1500 is a full-size truck that squares off against the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Toyota Tundra. 

    While no full-size truck is perfect, the Ram 1500 is among the segment’s most appealing. Its interior is a classy affair even in base form, its ride is SUV-comfortable, and its somewhat limited powertrain lineup can still flex with the best. We’ll publish a rating once final information is made available. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

    The Ram 1500 is expected to largely carry over for 2024, though an electric version will arrive for the 2025 model year. We evaluate that model separately. 

    It’s not clear if the old-school Ram 1500 Classic will stick around, though. That model hasn’t been a great buy for a while, anyway. 

    Ram only offers four-door versions, including extended- and crew-cab bodies with either a 5-foot-7 or a 6-foot-4 bed bolted to the rear. Look for a 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 305 hp as standard, or a 5.7-liter V-8 with 395 hp as the step-up choice in most configurations. A twin-turbo inline-6 that debuted in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will eventually find its way to the Ram lineup. 

    The Ram TRX, meanwhile, makes use of a bonkers 702-hp supercharged V-8. 

    No matter the engine, Ram hooks up a slick 8-speed automatic transmission. Tow ratings top out just shy of 13,000 pounds. Underneath, the coil springs can be augmented with airbags that lower the truck at speed. Either way, the Ram rides with a plush, composed confidence unmatched by rivals. 

    Fuel economy is quite good for a big pickup, with many configurations topping 20 mpg combined on the EPA’s test. The 3.6-liter V-6 and the 5.7-liter V-8 both benefit from mild-hybrid tech that provides some electric assistance to reduce consumption. 

    The Ram 1500 is particularly comfortable inside, so long as you’re not wedged into the extended cab’s back seat. High-end Limited and Laramie Longhorn versions exemplify the “Cowboy Cadillac” look and feel, too. Most models have at least an 8.4-inch touchscreen that we like more than the huge, vertical 12.0-inch touchscreen. That display is just too big. 

    Ram offers a decent array of driver-assistance tech, but it can’t match GM or Ford for their hands-off tech. 

    How much does the 2024 Ram 1500 cost?

    Ram wants around $40,000 for the cheapest Tradesman models in 2023, and prices can be expected to rise. A well-equipped SLT or Big Horn can come close to $60,000 if you’re not careful with options.

    The Toyota Crown was new for the U.S. last year and is expected to carry over unchanged for 2024, though a plug-in Prime hybrid may join the lineup.

    The Crown cuts a fastback profile, but the lower body cladding adds SUV-like cues. There’s nothing trail-ready here; in terms of ground clearance it’s definitely a car. The exterior is almost elegant based on the sculpted sides, but a bit awkward from the tall roof and high shoulder line. The nose gets a wide grille, inspired by the Toyota Venza’s face but as if burdened with an overbite. Notably, the original Venza presented as a high-riding wagon, and now the Crown presents as a raised sedan—with a seating position 4.0 inches higher than the Camry with a roofline to match. In top trim, two-tone paint adds an elegant touch. 

    The inside gets a slightly upscale look, but front and rear headroom are compromised. Front seats are comfy, rear seats have decent legroom, and the trunk has a small opening but decent overall capacity.

    The Crown debuts Toyota’s two latest hybrid systems, more notably the Hybrid Max that balances fuel economy and power in the top model. A 2.4-liter turbo-4 combines with front and rear motors to yield 340 hp and all-wheel drive. The power feeds through a direct-shift 6-speed transmission with paddle shifters. It claims a 5.9-second 0-60 mph time and gets 30 mpg combined.

    The other two Crown grades feature the Toyota Hybrid System (THS) used elsewhere in the brand’s lineup, which teams a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with two motors, front and rear, for all-wheel drive, 236 hp, and 41 mpg combined.

    The tall driver positioning lends a crossover driving character, perfectly pleasant though with more body lean than an average sedan. It doesn’t attack corners, but rides smoothly.

    How much does the 2024 Toyota Crown cost?

    The Crown comes in XLE, Limited, and Platinum trims.     What kind of car is the 2024 Nissan Sentra? What does it compare to?

    The Nissan Sentra, a sedan that competes in the compact segment, has been one of the brand’s entry-level cars over the past couple of decades. Approachable styling and a generous menu of standard safety features place the Sentra among rivals like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda 3.

    Is the 2024 Nissan Sentra a good car?

    Yes, though there’s room for improvement. The styling, value, and comfort are points in its favor, but performance is lacking and crash-test scores are mixed.     What’s new for the 2024 Nissan Sentra?

    We expect the Sentra to go into 2024 with few changes. The Sentra comes in S, SV, and SR trims, in a design that’s much like a scaled-down version of its larger siblings, the Maxima and Altima. The design is more elegant than the Sentra’s economy-car roots would suggest, and it gets even better inside, especially when the optional black-and-tan two-tone leather upholstery is fitted.

    The front-drive Sentra puts its 149 hp to the ground by way of a CVT. The driving dynamics are predicable but dull, although handling is reasonably engaging and the ride is smooth and comfortable.

    The front seats are comfortable, even the base versions, which get cloth upholstery and manual adjustment. Heated front seats, power adjustments and upgraded lumbar support are optional upgrades. Rear passengers get plenty of headroom and legroom, but it’ll be a tight squeeze for three across. Trunk space is decent and there’s lots of small item storage throughout the cabin.

    The IIHS says the Sentra is a Top Safety Pick, but NHTSA testing found flaws in front passenger protection, yielding a score of three out of five stars in that area. Automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitors headline the list of standard safety features.

    How much does the 2024 Nissan Sentra cost?

    Prices haven’t been released for 2024, but last year’s $21,000 base Sentra S included a 7.0-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and automatic emergency braking. We think the $23,000 or so for the SV is worth it, for the 8.0-inch touchscreen and adaptive cruise control, and we’d also consider adding the Premium package to get the power driver’s seat, sunroof, and quilted leather.

    The Bronco is an off-road-oriented SUV in the vein of the Jeep Wrangler. Also shop it against the Toyota 4Runner if you’re heading for the trails. 

    There are better choices for in-town comfort, but the 2024 Ford Bronco is a full-personality four-wheeler available in a huge range of trim levels. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

    The 2024 Bronco should largely carry over, though it’s likely Ford will offer up at least one or two special editions throughout the model year.

    With its 1960s-era blocky lines, the Bronco’s looks are unmistakable. (And if you’re really confused, its big BRONCO badging stretching across the upright grille on many versions is a dead giveaway.). The Bronco is unabashedly retro, albeit with some modern touches such as available LED headlights, integrated tow hooks, and big wheels and tires nearly as tall as the original’s hood line. Two- and four-door versions are available, each of which can be paired with either a composite hardtop with removable panels or a conventional fabric top with plastic windows toward the rear.

    The retro theme continues inside, with a bolt-upright dash and easy-clean (read: cheap plastic) trim throughout. 

    The base 2.3-liter turbo-4 churns out 275 hp via either a 7-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic, while a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 is widely available for those who need a little more. The Raptor’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 spins out 418 hp. Four-wheel drive comes standard, of course, but it takes adding the Sasquatch package with its 35-inch all-terrain tires, Bilstein dampers, and extra off-road modes to go beyond typical mid-size pickup capability. Other versions build in even more tech, such as beefier axles, semi-active shocks, and tires as tall as 37 inches. 

    Quick-witted steering makes the Bronco less lumbering in town than its big dimensions might otherwise suggest. The ride is firm, yet with all that rubber it can swallow up big bumps. Highway cruising means constant steering corrections, though. 

    Fuel economy? It’s not great, though the base model checks in as high as 20 mpg combined.

    Inside, look for decent seats and a boxy cargo area. An 8.0-inch touchscreen sits front and center on the dash, above rubberized knobs and switches. No version drips with luxury, though leather and heated seats can be added. 

    A five-star rating from the NHTSA provides some crash-test peace of mind. Look for standard automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam headlights, plus widely available blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, and active lane control.

    How much does the 2024 Ford Bronco cost?

    Strong demand has prompted several price hikes, so it’s reasonable to estimate that Ford will want close to $37,000 for the cheapest model. A four-door version costs $3,000 or so more. Most buyers skip the somewhat spartan base model for one of nine other trim levels, though you’ll want to spend some time comparing this huge lineup to see what fits your needs.

    The 2024 Hyundai Palisade is a three-row crossover SUV. Shop it against the closely related Kia Telluride as well as the Honda Pilot, Subaru Ascent, and Volkswagen Atlas. 

    An excellent choice overall, the 2024 Hyundai Palisade is just beginning to show its age in its lack of a frugal electrified powertrain. Its big interior, careful attention to details, and impressive tech have earned it high scores in previous model years. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

    This big, three-row SUV has sharp styling outside, with razor-like details and rakish lines that help relieve what would otherwise be a somewhat anonymous two-box SUV. The big, bright grille gives way to sharp headlights. Though the design works best with big wheels, the Palisade looks upscale in even its least-costly form. 

    It’s just as nice inside, with a slim band of climate-control vents running across the low dashboard. A wide 12.0-inch touchscreen serves as the central input center, and it does a nice job mixing conventional buttons and knobs with a simple overall look. Higher-end models come dressed up with quilted leather trim that nudges them well into luxury-car territory.

    The 291-hp 3.8-liter V-6 is smooth and luxurious, but in a 2010 way, not a 2024 way. It’s a delightful engine, but its lack of electrification means 22 mpg combined is likely here. Some hybrid competitors promise as much as 10 mpg better. At least the seamless all-wheel-drive system and smooth 8-speed automatic transmission aid the luxurious experience. Ride quality is another asset; the Palisade takes bumps big and small in stride. Properly equipped, the Palisade can lug up to 5,000 pounds. 

    The interior is nicely finished and plenty spacious, with great room for adults in the first row, plenty of space in row two, and tolerable room in the third row. Finishes are top-notch even in the Palisade’s least-costly form. Look for 46 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row tucked away, too. 

    Top crash-test results and plenty of standard crash-avoidance tech should make the 2024 Palisade a safe choice once again. Its standard automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and active lane control can be augmented with a surround-view camera system and limited hands-free driving tech. 

    How much does the 2024 Hyundai Palisade cost?

    The Palisade should start at around $37,000 for the 2024 model year, plus around $2,000 for all-wheel drive. The best buy in this lineup has long been the mid-level SEL, which runs another $3,000 but adds synthetic leather trim, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats.
