    The 70-year-old, who won the 1986 Indy 500 as a driver and the 2004 and 2020 races as a team owner, underwent triple bypass heart surgery last June after being told by doctors that he’d suffered a heart attack in May.

    Speaking on Sunday after his driver Christian Lundgaard won the Toronto IndyCar race – the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team’s first win in the series since Takuma Sato’s 2020 Indy 500 triumph – Rahal said the poor performance of his squad at this year’s event and the following Detroit Grand Prix had a negative impact on him.

    “I’m 70 years old, and the month of May took a real toll on me,” said Rahal, whose son Graham failed to qualify for the 500 in his team’s car. “I wasn’t sleeping well at night. We’re not here to fricking play around or to be part of it. We’re here to win.

    “A year ago in June, I had open heart surgery. This May, I mean, it knocked me back a few steps because I’m not here just to show up.

    “I just said right after that, we’re going to create and instill and initiate the Indy recovery plan, which we’re in the process of doing, which is all about looking into why we performed so poorly and fixing those issues so that next May we’re fighting for the pole, and that’s our goal.”

    Rahal turned to his brains trust of longtime team manager Ricardo Nault, ex-Honda Performance Development executive Steve Eriksen and Stefano Sordo, the former McLaren and Red Bull F1 engineer to get things back on track.

    “Indy kind of shook us to our core I think, but I have to say, frankly, the race that maybe had a bigger negative affect was Detroit because we were not good at all,” he added. “That’s when we decided to make the changes that we made internally.

    “I think we’ve seen the results of that change. We’ve had great events since then. There’s I think a very good vibe within the team.

    “Of course, this helps that immensely. Nothing like winning, right?”

    “Christian gets it,” added Rahal. “He is a young guy, but he understands. I think this win, all this does is as a driver the first time you win a big race it’s like, ‘okay, wow, I can do that, and I can do it again.’

    “This whole year Christian has been just a joy to work with because every day when you see Christian, you know you’re going to get 100%, and that to me is what it’s all about.”

But while Wolff said there will be more thorough tuning of the car next year, he says the team doesn’t want to completely abandon all efforts this season.

    “When I asked Niki [Lauda] many years ago, what do you want to focus on: this year’s championship and winning it or next year’s?     2024 Chevrolet Traverse Review

    The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has undergone a redesign, making it a three-row crossover SUV, comparable in size to the Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot, and new Toyota Grand Highlander.

    One of the most significant changes comes in the form of the off-road Z71 trim, which is a newcomer to the Traverse lineup, taking inspiration from Chevy’s pickup trucks and full-size SUVs. This trim accentuates the truck-like stance of the Traverse, featuring a vertical, broad grille with the Chevy bowtie cinched by a belt and crowned by slim LED running lights beneath a pronounced hood. The Z71 model differentiates itself with unique lower grille elements, including red recovery hooks, an aluminum skid plate, and improved approach angles.

    The Traverse’s visual appeal is further heightened by bulging fenders and sculpted rocker panels on the sides, offering more visual interest than its predecessor. The most striking difference is noticed in the rear quarter windows, which now flare out behind the rear doors, giving the Traverse a distinct and bold appearance. RS trims sport blacked-out 22-inch wheels and other trim elements, while Z71 trims equip all-terrain tires mounted on 18-inch wheels. The Z71 also enjoys an advantage with one inch more ground clearance and a wider track, although Chevy has yet to reveal the specifications of the base model.

    Step inside the Traverse, and you’ll find a lower dash that enhances the spaciousness of the cabin. A striking curved wall of screens cocoons the driver, while a larger 17.7-inch touchscreen hovers above thin horizontal vents and climate buttons and dials. The console design has been revamped to create more room for side-by-side cupholders and an available wireless smartphone charger, achieved by relocating the electronic gear shifter from the console to a stalk on the steering column.

    The gear shifter controls the new 8-speed automatic transmission, which transfers power to the front wheels from a new 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine. Although specifics about this engine are scarce, it is believed to be derived from the 2.7-liter turbo-4 used in the Chevy Colorado mid-size pickup. In the 2024 Traverse, this new engine generates 315 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, surpassing the outgoing V-6’s 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The tow rating remains unchanged at 5,000 pounds. The Z71 trim includes a trailering package, a distinct twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system, and suspension dampers with enhanced rebound control.

    While specific details about the new engine’s fuel efficiency are still under wraps, it is expected to improve upon the outgoing Traverse’s EPA rating of 18 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, or 20 mpg combined with AWD.

    The Traverse has traditionally stood out in the market with its interior space and seating flexibility, and the redesigned model is likely to continue this trend. Although Chevy has yet to release specifications or make the redesigned 2024 Traverse available to the motoring press, the brand boasts a maximum cargo capacity of 97.6 cubic feet with both the second and third rows folded flat. The Traverse LS trim comes with two rear bench seats, allowing seating for up to eight passengers. In contrast, other trims swap in second-row captain’s chairs for a seven-passenger configuration. The tilt-and-slide design of the second-row seats allows easy access to the third row without having to remove a child safety seat latched into the second row. The LT trim offers a choice between seven or eight-seat configurations.

    Safety features abound in the 2024 Traverse, with every model equipped with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, active lane control, and automatic high-beam headlights. The Buckle to Drive feature, which requires the driver and front passenger to be buckled before engaging gears, is now accompanied by a rear seat belt reminder for both the second and third rows. Optional features include blind-spot monitors, a surround-view camera system, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system.

    As for pricing, details on LS, LT, Z71, and top RS trims have not been announced yet, but prices are expected to range from just below $40,000 to $55,000. The Premier and High Country trims, available for the 2023 model, have not been confirmed for 2024.

    The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse offers not only standard driver-assist features but also a plethora of modern tech and convenience features, including a standard 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six USB ports, and an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Optional features include heated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, a power-folding third row, a hands-free power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and more.
